When the inbox has no items - the current display makes sense
e.g. " Inbox"
But as soon as some items have been added into there, it would be useful to see how many items require classification
e.g. " Inbox (5)"

I agree with chuckthenerd. To add to his comments:
Total items is shown at the bottom of areas. It might be handy to have each “List” and “Action” to have their own total number shown. It is very easy to put something in “Someday” or other category and forget about it but a number of items might help make you review it more often eg:
Inbox (2)
Next Actions (15)
Focus (5)
Scheduled (18)
Waiting (3)
Someday (7)
